People in the Twin Ports often think of the Soup Kitchen when they are looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity, and of the Clothing Exchange when they have old apparel to donate. It’s wonderful to have programs that are so known and recognized in the community, but sometimes our other programs get a little bit neglected!
The Community Services program is one of our oldest programs. It is primarily a referral program, giving information about other resources that are available outside the walls of the Damiano Center, such as housing, employment training, addiction recovery programs, and many other needs that our guests may have.
There are other services available as well, including a community phone, mailboxes for people who are homeless, transportation assistance, free hygiene items, and free household goods for people who have recently gotten a new place to live. Community Services relies on donations from the community for hygiene items and household goods.
Some of the items that we most need right now are:
pots and pans
blankets and comforters (large enough for full or queen beds)
toasters
coffee makers
microwaves
vacuums
If you bring us appliances, please make sure that they are in working order. If you donate any of these items, please bring them to the donation sorting room as you would when you donate clothing. Thank you for supporting Community Services or any other program at the Damiano Center!
